biography

Bex’s background is in theatre and she has a passion for working with young people.   After completing her MA in applied drama at Goldsmiths she began creating projects that promote equality, inclusion and personal development.

Bex works in a freelance capacity designing and implementing projects which engage young people who have had limited opportunities  from a range of different backgrounds.

Since 2009, in collaboration with Jo Bates, she has worked with young people who have had contact with the criminal justice system.  Bex currently project manages Miss Represented which she and Jo created in 2011. She directs the shows, working with the group to hone their words and then drawing together all the different creative threads to make a whole.

Bex’s recent work has included the  design and project management of  Viral with Lighthouse, an informal and collaborative learning programme of mentoring, creative and professional development, experimentation and production for a diverse group of 16-25 year olds.

At Brighton Dome Bex pioneered the SPECTRUM music project.    SPECTRUM supports Brighton’s lively music scene by providing  a monthly platform for local artists and making conventional and unusual venues, including Brighton Museum accessible for live events .  The programme has also included seminars, a collaborative video strand and Artist Residency scheme.

Bex is also a singer with the Bex Fidler Blues Band and acapella trio Bel Mousai performing eclectic soulful covers and original compositions.
